Name: Eiichi Soda Gender: Male Age: 75
How long have you been with the company?
Twenty-five years.
Has your viewpoint changed since you started working for a living?
That's been quite a while ago, so I don't know.
Were there any times at work that you particularly struggled, or did something you regret doing?
I process molds. The work is enjoyable, but the work can be very taxing, as it is hard to take measurements for some shapes.
As for regrets, I perform my work in my own way.
After I've finished a job, I sometimes wonder if I could have done something differently, or chosen an easier way to go about it.
I sometimes have to redo the work, which wastes time.
If there were something you would praise about the way you work, what would it be?
I work standing up all day long, and I don't get that tired.
Is there someone you respect now? What about that person do you respect?
Well, I've got the most seniority of anyone, so it would be difficult to single anyone out, but there are employees who perform their work well and are very attentive. I'd like to praise them.
What are the most enjoyable company activities for you?
The employee trip. The Kyoei-kai sponsors it and plans different activities that are a lot of fun.
As a company veteran, do you have any advice for new employees?
Be very diligent in your work. When experienced employees give you basic instruction, apply it in your own way.
Be sure to develop and maintain your own opinions.
How do you view the company president?
He's cheerful and very considerate. He's particularly kind to the older employees.
He's sometimes calls me in a joking way by asking if I'm still alive, and that makes me feel very friendly toward him.

I've begun to realize that I have to be more demanding of myself.
I've also learned from experience that proper courtesy is very important.
Were there any times at work that you particularly struggled, or did something you regret doing?
I'm not physically very strong, so I can't lift heavy weights.
As for regrets, a customer filed a major complaint because I was not as diligent as I should have been.
Some of the senior members of the company had to take long trips to resolve that problem and help me out, and it upset the work schedule.
If there were something you would praise about the way you work, what would it be?
I always enjoy myself when I work.
Is there someone you respect now? What about that person do you respect?
Yes, there are.
They are particular about certain aspects of their work, and they'll devote all their attention to a task to get it right.
What are the most enjoyable company activities for you?
The party after the event for presenting plans for future business development, and the company employees' trip.
As a company veteran, do you have any advice for new employees?
Work hard in your own way so that you can enjoy your work.
It's my belief that you won't last long in a job if you don't enjoy it.
How do you view the company president?
He's always considerate of the employees.
He's friendly and easy to talk to.
